Darren Whalen, A.K.A. DJ HYPE, started his DJ career at the age of 16 in 1993 when his interest in the art first began. He started by hosting teen dances in his home town and DJ'ing for a number of surrounding high schools.

At the age of 19, he started working at his first bar, Legends Lounge in Amherst, NS. This eventually led to DJ work in bars and night clubs in various towns including Truro, Amherst, Sackville, Halifax, and Moncton.

In 1995, Darren started his own Disc Jockey company, Hype Entertainment, which provided entertainment for many types of events throughout the Maritimes. In 1997, Darren studied audio recording, editing, & engineering at the Nova Scotia Community College in Truro, NS.

DJ Hype was the DJ for a major Much Music dance contest on the East Coast, held at the Lock & Key Nightclub in Truro, NS. Finalists were sent to Toronto to dance on the set of the popular Much Music television dance show, Electric Circus.

He also appeared on the popular radio show, Voodoo Saturday Night, on Moncton's K945 radio for 2 years. This was broadcasted live from Voodoo Nightclub, straight from the DJ booth. Darren was the head DJ at Voodoo Nightclub in Moncton, NB where he resided for 6 years.

Darren now does most of his DJ work on the road providing mobile professional entertainment for weddings. He has helped hundreds of couples over the years customize their wedding day to meet their exact needs. 

Darren recently got married in October of 2010 to his beautiful wife, Jessica and now knows more than ever the importance of the special bond between husband and wife. He strives to make each client's wedding day one they will remember forever!
